President Canterbury Announcement to Run for Re-election
Updated On: Dec 06, 2012

Below is a message from FOP National President Chuck Canterbury announcing his decision to run for re-election to the office of National President:

Brothers and Sisters,

After seeking the permission of my Local and State Lodges and discussions with my family, I have made the decision that I will be seeking reelection to the office of National President in 2013. As an independent candidate I have always counted on the delegates for support and I will always seek to be the delegates choice.

The decision was not a hard one, as I believe that in my past terms we have seen the FOP grow and become an even stronger and more effective Police Labor Organization. We have continued to expand our influence and have placed the FOP in the position of being the “Voice of America’s Law Enforcement Officers”.

The 2012 elections will have a huge impact on our members and I believe that experienced and dedicated leadership will be needed to help guide us through these troubling political times. The public safety community is under attack and we must continue to fight the fights that are necessary to maintain the hard fought rights and benefits we have been able to achieve.

As President I have forged relationships and fostered the image of the FOP in a way that has made us the most credible and influential police organization in our great country. My experience will allow these relationships to continue to grow and enhance our ability to win the tough fights for our members.

I have never made pledges that are lofty in nature because the only things an FOP candidate can control is his or her own integrity and hard work. For that reason I have always stood on these very simple guidelines:

  1. I will work hard for this Order
  2. I will listen to the members
  3. I will always tell the truth

These promises have been made every time I have offered myself for election and for past 17 years: three promises made, three promises kept.  I stand ready to answer questions and to put forth my goals for the next two years and I humbly ask for your support.

Fraternally yours

Chuck Canterbury
