Funeral Services Set for Littleton Officer Kevin Denner

On Monday, at approximately 11:30 AM Littleton Police Officer Kevin Denner died of injuries resulting from a motor vehicle accident.  Officer Denner was riding his motorcycle from his home enroute to a municipal court hearing and was westbound on Belleview when a Toyota driven by a drunk driver, heading eastbound made a left turn to go north on De Gaulle, cut off  Denner’s motorcycle.  The motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the Toyota. Officer Denner was wearing a helmet, but it was knocked off during the crash.  He died at the scene.

The driver of the car Jemal Abdelkader Dawed, 37, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.   Dawed was later charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, careless driving and failure to yield the right of way. He is being held in the Arapahoe County jail on $50,000 bail. Dawed, is scheduled for his first court appearance on Friday.

Officer Denner was a ten year veteran of the Littleton Police Department.   He began his career as a patrol officer then spent more than seven years as a detective before returning to the streets.   As a detective, Officer Denner investigated Internet and computer crimes, including child pornography cases. 

Littleton is a small tight knit department of approximately 70 sworn officers.  This unfortunate incident has touch each of them deeply.  Each is struggling to deal with this death of a brother.  Officer Kevin Denner is survived by his father, his wife Kristin, and his two young children, ages 8 and 9.  The family is asking for privacy during their time of grieving.

Funeral services for Littleton Police Officer Kevin Denner will be held Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at Mission Hills Church, 620 SouthPark Drive in Littleton.  Interment will follow at Littleton Cemetery, 6115 South Prince Street.  There will be a public viewing on Thursday, May 9 from 3-7 p.m. at the Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue in Aurora.  Friends, family and members of the law enforcement community are welcome.

*Cameras will not be permitted inside the service but photographers and videographers may shoot from a designated location outside of the church.  Video footage of the service will be provided upon request.
